Thanks for taking the time to visit my website and read a little bit more about me.
Trading as Steve Sweetmore Joinery I have been in business since 1999. However, I’m no spring chicken and we must go back to the early 80’s to discover that I served my Carpentry and Joinery Advanced Craft, City and Guilds Apprenticeship at Mansfield based Baggaley Construction. Invaluable experience comes from working for a large building company where the skills of building houses, schools and hospitals are learned. I owe a debt of gratitude to Baggaley Construction for an all round education in the Building trade.
The late 80’s was the age of the sub-contractor, where tradesmen could move on to self-employment. I took advantage of this and became self-employed in 1988 and followed the work around. Huge council house modernization projects from Nottingham to Barnsley kept me busy taking homes to a bare brick shell before refurbishing with PVCu windows, kitchens and bathrooms.
"The Building trade is what I know and Joinery is what I’m good at."
Occasionally I would work for the large house building companies like Barratts and Wimpey where modern house building techniques were learned. Working as a subcontractor required moving from one contract to the next learning different skills and aspects of the trade. From pouring concrete foundations for a super-market to fitting new kitchens, I have been fortunate to gain all round knowledge and experience.
A big boom to the building industry came with the introduction of uPVC building products. A whole new industry was developed and I sub-contracted for local companies fitting windows, doors and conservatories, as well as soffit and fascia replacements.
Being self motivated and hard working, owning my own business became a natural progression. That is not to say I am a ‘business man’. The Building trade is what I know and Joinery is what I’m good at. First and foremost I provide a service and I have built up a large customer base from recommendations through providing honest, friendly and professional advice and workmanship. I understand that employing a tradesman to work in your home can be a daunting experience (especially for the elderly) and I pride myself on making every job I do a pleasant experience for the customer. If you’re happy with what I do you’ll recommend me to your friends and family.
